The family dentist Independence trusts offers all of the dental and oral health care services you need under one roof. From children’s dentistry for the youngest members of your family to cosmetic dentistry for you and restorative dentistry for everyone, the family dentist Northern Kentucky depends on will develop a treatment plan that is appropriate and satisfying.

Preventive Dentistry

At the foundation of our dental practice in Independence is preventive dentistry. The old saying, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” was made for dentistry. Unlike the medical profession, which is more reactive once a problem is diagnosed, dentistry is focused on preventing dental health issues before they develop. With regular checkups – and in keeping with the recommendation of the American Dental Association, we advise two dental exams per year –we can check for problems before they become large and usually more costly to correct. During your dental checkup, your Northern Kentucky family dentist will discuss your current dental health, educate you about proper oral hygiene care at home and devise a custom treatment plan that safeguards the health and attractiveness of your smile.

Sedation Dentistry

Of course, before you can ensure the health and beauty of your smile, you have to get to the office of your Independence family dentist. We understand that for some people, seeing the dentist is an anxiety producing proposition. That’s why we offer two types of sedation dentistry to ease the anxiety that many experience when undergoing dental procedures.

If you recognize the importance of seeing the dentist, but just need a bit of help relaxing in the exam chair, then nitrous oxide may be the ideal solution for settling your nerves. Nitrous oxide – also known as laughing gas – is administered during treatment through a nose mask. Breathing in a measured amount of this gas, you will feel your body relax and your cares will disappear.

Oral conscious sedation uses a mild sedative pill that is taken before your arrive at Independence Family Dentistry. In this case, you’ll need a responsible adult to drive you to and from your appointment. Both types of sedation allow us to correct years of painful and embarrassing problems in possibly only one visit, all while minimizing stress and encouraging patient relaxation.

Gum Disease Therapy

If your Independence family dentist finds the signs of periodontal disease during a dental checkup, then we offer gum disease therapy. Gum disease starts with the buildup of plaque and tartar that trap the bacteria that cause gingivitis and periodontitis. To remove the bacteria above and below the gum line, we use scaling and root planing – a non-invasive treatment that arrests the advance of periodontal disease.

TMJ Assessments and Appliances

If you are experiencing symptoms including head, neck and jaw pain, teeth clenching and grinding, or if your bite feels a bit out of alignment, the problem may be temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. Dr. Nakhla can assess your jaw for issues, and create a custom oral appliance to alleviate the condition and your discomfort.

Athletic Mouthguards

Whether your family athlete is young or old, an athletic mouthguard should be part of the uniform they wear for play and practice. Mouthguards are designed to protect teeth, gums, lips and tongue during athletic competition. Research also shows that a mouthguard can reduce the impact of a concussion. At Independence Family Dentistry, Dr. Nakhla can fabricate custom athletic mouthguards for athletes of all ages.
