Emergency Dentistry in Independence, KY

The dictionary defines an emergency as “a sudden, urgent, usually unexpected occurrence or occasion requiring immediate action.” We call an emergency a frightening, unsettling and often very inconvenient event that demands urgent care so you can get back to your life. Dr. Danny Nakhla and his staff at Independence Family Dentistry in Independence, KY, are ready to help you or a loved one navigate through a dental emergency with compassionate and immediate care.

As happens with most emergencies, a dental emergency occurs without warning. The best you can do is be prepared and know how to react in different situations. Your first step should be to call our office immediately at (859) 356-2000 and explain your emergency. Our staff will be able to tell you what to do until you can get to our office for an urgent visit; we are accustomed to scheduling emergency treatment the same day if necessary.

How to Prevent an Emergency

Many dental emergencies happen during athletic competition or sports play. Whether you or one of your children is a sports enthusiast, a mouthguard should be worn during play and practice. At Independence Family Dentistry, Dr. Nakhla will fabricate a custom-crafted mouthguard that fits comfortably in your mouth. This oral appliance is designed to protect your teeth, gums, lips and tongue from injury. Moreover, wearing a mouthguard has also been shown to decrease the incidence and the severity of concussion should one occur.

Your Northern Kentucky Emergency Dentist

Dr. Nakhla and his team are experienced and the office is equipped to handle a number of different dental emergencies. The most obvious is a knocked-out, or avulsed, tooth. If this happens, you need to get to our office as soon as possible. Treated within 30 minutes to an hour, a knocked-out tooth can sometime be saved. In the meantime, take the following precautions:

  • Touch only the crown of the tooth, not the root
  • Rinse the tooth in clear water
  • If possible, reinsert the tooth in its socket and bite down gently
  • Alternatively, store the tooth in a sealed container filled with milk

Other common emergencies are a fractured tooth, a chipped tooth and a toothache. In each of these instances, call Independence Family Dentistry immediately and we will be able to offer directions on what you should do, and schedule a same-day appointment if necessary.

Independence Family Dentistry provides a variety of family dentistry services for the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Request your appointmentwith the family dentist Independence can count on for professional and compassionate dental care.
