Sedation Dentist in Independence Wants You to Relax

At Independence Family Dentistry, we’ve seen it all when it comes to teeth. Our years of experience have taught us that there’s one thing almost all adults share — and that’s dental anxiety, in some form or another. Whether it’s mild, severe or somewhere in between, almost all of us have a fear having our teeth worked on. As your trusted dental professionals, we understand that anxiety — and that’s why we’re proud to offer our patients a way to relax their way to a healthy smile. Keep reading to learn more from Dr. Danny Nakhla, your sedation dentist in Independence today.

Get Comfortable at the Dentist’s Office With Sedation Dentistry

At Independence Family Dentistry, we offer two types of sedation dentistry to ease the fear and anxiety that you may experience when undergoing dental treatment.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Also known as laughing gas, this option is a favorite for those with mild to moderate anxiety undergoing simple procedures. It’s administered as a gas you breathe in through a nasal mask, and its effects are soothing — you’re awake with nitrous oxide sedation, but we promise you’ll be totally removed from what’s going on around you. Most patients say the best thing about this sedation option is that its effects wear off as soon as the procedure is over and we remove the mask, meaning you can go on about your day without any post-treatment drowsiness.

Oral Conscious Sedation

For patients dealing with moderate to severe dental anxiety, or those who prefer to undergo long dental treatments in just one procedure, oral conscious sedation can be the key to finding much-needed comfort. This option is becoming increasingly popular in sedation dentistry for its excellent soothing results.

With oral conscious sedation, you’ll take a pill we’ve prescribed about an hour before your surgery. Once its effects have taken over, you can relax back in the chair and while we get to work. Even though you’re still technically awake and responsive during the procedure, most patients report not remembering anything once the effects of the medicine have worn off.

Because this type of sedation has a much stronger effect, you’ll need to plan for a loved one to drive you home from our office and monitor you for a few hours following your procedure.
